When our community calls, Stamford Firefighters Respond
Stamford Professional Fire Fighters Charitable Foundation Corp. · A 501(c)(3) Organization
Our Purpose
Mission
"No firefighter, their family, or member of our community stands alone in times of need."
Firefighters spend a career showing up for people on the worst day of their lives. When a diagnosis, a fire, or a death lands on one of our own families, the costs start immediately and the help takes time to arrive. The Foundation exists to cover that stretch.
We're a 501(c)(3) founded in March 2025 by seven working Stamford firefighters, serving active and retired members of the department, their families, and the neighbors we answer calls for. Read about how we're built and where the money goes.
What We're Building
Four funds, built to last
We're building these as endowed funds: capital that stays invested and pays out year after year, rather than money raised and spent in the same twelve months. A fund built that way still helps someone next month, and it is still there in twenty years.
That is the difference between a one-time $1,000 scholarship check and putting a firefighter's kid through four years of school. Every figure is published on our finances page.
Firefighter Cancer Support
Cancer kills more firefighters on the job than fire does. Of the line-of-duty deaths the IAFF honored in 2025, roughly 80% were occupational cancer.
A diagnosis drives costs up and income down in the same month, and it takes time for insurance and benefits to catch up. This fund is built to carry a firefighter's family through that stretch, whatever it turns out they need.
See the research →Future Leaders Scholarship Fund
A firefighter's children grow up around missed birthdays and holiday shifts. This fund helps pay for what comes after high school: college, trade school, certifications.
We're building it as an endowment so it can carry a student through several years rather than making a single grant and starting over.
Community Recovery Fund
Fire departments show up for each other. When a neighboring department loses one of its own, or a family in our area loses everything, the response has to be quick and it usually has to be local.
This fund is what lets us answer that: direct help for families across the region, support for departments after a tragedy, and a real contribution when a relief effort or a fundraiser needs one.
Line of Duty Family Fund
We hope this fund is never needed. If it is, a Stamford firefighter has not come home, and their family's expenses begin that same week.
The goal is capital sitting ready, so support reaches them immediately and carries them through until longer-term benefits arrive.
Founding partners
We're capitalizing these four funds now, and corporate support is how they reach the size they need to be. A gift at this stage doesn't fund a single year of assistance. It becomes part of the base a fund pays out from, permanently, and named fund opportunities are available to founding partners.
You're also backing the people who respond when something happens to your building or your employees. No board member draws a salary, 100% of every gift reaches the Foundation, our Form 990 is public, and our board directs each gift to wherever the need is greatest.
